Grounding through grounding: the debut P X A full-length S P A C E S is a gut level sounding board of the creative thoughts and emotions of Astro Nautico co-founder Paul Jones.
The P X A project is about regeneration. Over the course of four years, Jones archived intimate experimental recordings he had previously abandoned. By sculpting a web of finished fragments Jones discovered wild tangles of roots forming knots and suggestive patterns. Ghosts emerged through static media, some friendly, some eremitic. Fleeting images of different pasts found harmony in disharmony, beauty in the uncanny. Refracted through a cascade of nostalgia and disorientation, tied only loosely to their origins in space-time, sun-warped auditory holograms appeared and disappeared into nothingness.
The music of P X A is both absorption and reflection of the World. The petroelectric death hum of global capitalism hangs heavy in the air around 60Hz. Inverted tape-hiss weaves in and out of the highs, a fleeting (impossible?) leap over and under resurfacing realities, the concrete of field recordings and the spirited ephemera of (re)imagined memories/melodies. Moments of profound dissociation linger and fade into the sublime, trading dread for a supreme peace.
For those seeking time out to feel feelings and think thoughts about permanent impermanence, Astro Nautico is thrilled to release P X A on cassette and digital media.
Note: In solidarity with those for whom the freedom to explore space has been denied, proceeds from this release will benefit U.S. prison abolitionist organization Critical Resistance.
